CLASSROOM POLICIES

1. A fundamental policy that I have is "When I talk you listen and When you talk I will listen".
As a general rule I will not do a lot of talking because I believe you will learn the most by "getting your hands dirty" on the computers.

2. When we are working on our computers I will expect you to ask your fellow students for help if you would like. So this kind of talking I really encourage. The person in the classroom who learns the most is the teacher. Here I am talking about the Teacher and students who are teaching other students to do the work of the day.

3. I don't like to award detentions to anyone, but I will do so for the following behavior:
a. Surfing the Internet without the teacher's permission.
b. Using email or IM without the teacher's permission.

4. Saving computer work. All students should have some method of saving their work in a location off of the computers found in the classroom. This can be done on a Wiki you own or on a USB Flash Drive for storage of their work in this class. By using this storage space files can be saved at home/school and then are always in the students possession. Files will not be accidently erased by other students if they don't reside on the computer, but are safe on the student's Wiki or Flash Drive.

5 . Bring your textbook to all classes.
All work that will be done in class is guided by instructions from your textbook so you will find this to be indispensable. Don't plan on sharing someone else's textbook, because each student progresses at a different pace and it is not fair to impose on a fellow student.

6. Getting ahead. Once a student finishes the assigned work they should notify the teacher in order to get further instructions. I don't want students to go beyond the assignment we are currently working on.

7. The student is responsible for work missed during any absence. It is the student's responsibility to contact me to arrange to makeup a test or any missed assignment. If you know in advance that you will be absent, please let me know.

8. Square away your computer area. At the end of class center your keyboard/mouse and make sure you chair is pushed in. Pick up any odd paper that may be laying around.

9. Your participation is expected. Don't hesitate to ask questions. The same question is probably on other student's minds, but they are too timid to ask. This enables me to clarify something, which I did not make clear enough the first time.

10. Extra help before/after school. If you desire extra help please let me know so that I can make sure my schedule does not conflict with your desires for extra help.

11. Schedule of graded tests/projects. A schedule of projects and tests will be published in the BITTNER BULLETIN SchoolTimeTable.html just as soon as it is known when they will be given.

12. Wear the school uniform with pride. All students know what the school's uniform policy is and I will be enforcing that policy. The major violations that I have observed for boys are: Shirts not tucked in - for the girls they are: shirts not tucked in and skirts too short. After a short warning period (I will announce this end of warning period) in the classroom any violation of these rules will automatically result in a detention. Additionally should I see any of my students about the hallways out of uniform the same automatic detention will apply.

13. iPods are allowed in my classes. It is permissible to use an iPod during classes while the student is doing hands on work and no lecturing is occuring. All students should use earphones so other students can not hear the music. Upon leaving the classroom make sure the iPod is safely placed out of sight as iPods are not allowed in most other classes.
